And he climbs on up the hill on the rock on which he stands
He looks back at the crowd
He looks down at his hands and he says
I am a difference maker

NeedtoBreathe, “Difference Maker”

Pastel shirts, Easter Egg Hunts, Peeps, and white pants are back in style this weekend. Baptist preachers are preparing their vocal chords for Sunday like Adele before a big album release. And mothers are breaking out the “good plates” for Sunday lunch while you wonder why plates have to be locked away in the first place.

My Dad would celebrate any opportunity to get a HoneyBaked Ham, and Easter was always one of those opportunities. We weren’t an especially religious household growing up, but Mom would take us to church and then break out the “good plates” just the same. We would proceed to have ham for lunch, ham soup for dinner the next two nights, and ham biscuits for breakfast all week.

Maybe I’ll get a HoneyBaked Ham this weekend just to remember what it felt like to be a kid at holidays, and embrace the chance as the grown up to pass a few family traditions down the line. After all, that’s what cast iron cookin’ is all about.

Happy Easter y’all. Let’s get supper on the table.

Commandment #3 – Be adaptable – stovetop, oven, grill, or open flame.
