Take me down to the water, dunk my head into the river
Raise your hands, all hail rock ‘n’ roll
Change my life, wash me clean with
The truth of a guitar picker
For the songs he sings, I’ll gladly give my soul

Eric Church, “Evangeline”

Good morning y’all. I hope that the pollen is bearable wherever you are. For those interested, Eric Church released a heck of an album last week. If you want music that makes you feel something deep, check out Evangeline vs. the Machine. Crack open a drink, and turn up the music and the stovetop together.

As the weather warms up, I’m often reminded of the many hot mornings and afternoons spent playing sports as a kid. After Little League games, we were always given a sandwich, bag of chips, a candy bar, and choice of soda afterward. No wonder none of us made it to the big leagues.

This week’s featured recipe is the Tomato and Cheese Sandwich, a staple across many kitchen tables this time of year. Upgrade your lunch time and make it a Little League combo by adding a salad and some chocolate flavor to your plate. After all, what better way to offset the heat than with some frozen Girl Scout cookies or a Moon Pie.

Let’s get supper on the table.

Commandment #6 – Heavy bottom = cast iron.

When browsing recipes, often there will reference to a “heavy bottom” skillet or Dutch Oven. At Cast Iron Soul, we are here to decode the vernacular. Just remember, cast iron is a heavy bottom, and a heavy bottom is cast iron. Do you remember that a square can be a rectangle but a rectangle can’t be a square? Doesn’t matter at this point, I’m sure you’ve made out just fine. Just remember that heavy bottom = cast iron and you’ll be cooking away.

As always, thanks so much for subscribing to this page, it is truly appreciated. I hope it brings a little joy to your inbox and kitchen table.

Y’all be good. – Hendo
