I got dreams that keep me up in the dead of night
Telling me I wasn’t made for the simple life
There’s a light I see, but it’s far in the distance
I’m asking you to show me some forgiveness
It’s all for you in my pursuit of happiness

NeedtoBreathe, “Happiness”

Good morning y’all, and may the lottery balls bounce your way this weekend.

At Cast Iron Soul, we respect seasonality in all it’s forms. Spring and summer is baseball and beaches, fall is for football, and winter is the time to remark about icy roads and wonder whether the schools will close because the weather app forecasts the dreaded “wintry mix”.

Great meals rely on seasonality. A tomato in July does not equal a tomato in December. The best meals come from the best ingredients, and the best ingredients are only available in certain times of the year. Keep an eye out for a farmer’s market, and stock up on fresh vegetables that grow best in the time when you are shopping in the area you live. Build a meal where those ingredients are highlighted, and you’ll be amazed at the fullness of flavor.

After all, nobody truly wants football in the spring. Respect the seasons, and enjoy the Tomato and Cheese Sandwich this summer after catching a ball game.

Let’s get supper on the table.
