Every sporting season reaches a point where the elite teams separate themselves from the rest of the pack. The margins get tighter, good teams come together and bad teams fall apart. The pressure of future postseason stakes brings out talent that has prepared and is undaunted by the pressure each game invites.
This Playoff Push Turkey Chili will have you ready to support your squad all the way through the cold weather months. Chock full of turkey instead of ground beef, this is a beer, beans, and vegetables crowd pleaser for anyone within earshot of the “FIRST DOWN!” chant. And with the right amount of seasoning, you and all your compatriots will be hyped up to watch your team march their way towards postseason glory.
Never apologize for winning when it counts, and embrace the “championship phase” of a season. Let’s get supper on the table.

COMMANDMENTS
CAST IRON COMMANDMENTS https://castironsoul.com/cast-iron-cooking-ethos/
Commandment #7 – Respect seasonality.
Commandment #8 – Use your eyes, ears, and nose to determine when food is cooked. It is a feel as much as a timer.

Cookware:5 QT Cast Iron Dutch Oven
This Dutch Oven is THE BEST to cook for any group over 5 people. With enough heft to anchor the offensive line, you can feed a group of people a braised brisket, a hearty chili, or even make a sourdough loaf using the big Dutch Oven. I like to think that having one of these Dutch Ovens means you’re leading your life and kitchen with intentionality. After all, only someone with goals in life would procure a piece of cookware that could double as a weighted exercise assembly.
Do you believe in yourself to achieve great things? If that answer is yes, this is the Dutch Oven for you.
HOLD MY BEER – PREPARATION
Dice the onion and red pepper. Then rinse and drain the beans in a colander.
LIGHT THIS CANDLE- START COOKIN’
Put the Dutch Oven on the stove and turn the heat up to 5. Crack open that first beer.
Place 1TBS of olive oil in and let it coat evenly. Start cooking by the diced onions and peppers for 5-7 minutes. Add in the minced garlic and cook until fragrant (1-2 minutes).

Place the ground turkey in and use a slotted spoon to breakup into pieces. Cook for 7-10 minutes or until browned. Then pour in the diced tomatoes, with their juice and the 2 TBS of tomato paste. Stir to combine.
At this point I like to add in the seasonings mix, stirring throughout for even distribution. You can add more salt or black pepper to a preferred taste.
- Chili Powder – 1 TBS
- Salt – 2 TSP
- Cumin – 2 TSP
- Oregano – 1 TSP
- Cayenne Pepper – 1/2 TSP

Add the rinsed beans to the pot. Pour in 1-2 cups of lager into the chili and stir to combine. There should be visible liquid on top of the ground turkey.

Turn the heat down to a 3 or 4 (low-medium). Cook the chili for 40-50 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Taste and adjust the seasonings as desired.

Take the whole dang Dutch Oven and place it on the table for dramatic effect. Garnish with the cilantro, open a bag of tortilla chips, and watch some cold weather football.
