There is a familiar foe outside my window this morning. Just last week, I was wearing a T-Shirt outside celebrating Thanksgiving with the people who know me best, enjoying a hard earned celebratory turkey dinner and sweet potato pie. Now, just one week later, snow is falling outside on top of my car. Just a light dusting, sure. But an ominous sign of things to come.
Growing up, whenever it snowed in South Carolina the whole town shut down. Stores were raided for bread and milk, schools closed just in expectation of the white stuff. It’s a foreign object to be feared, not embraced. Adulthood has taken me to colder weather than what I grew up with, and I’ve since adjusted with the right clothes and a stronger mentality. But there is always a natural tendency for me to hunker down when the snow starts falling.
So onward and upward to all the brave souls out there, unprepared for the cold of winter. Let’s make it a magical time of year, whether staying inside or doing snow angles in the backyard. Make sure to raid the store before everyone else.
