Good morning, y’all.

Anyone else running a couple hours behind lately?

Commandment #1 — Challenge Yourself.

BLT — Say adios to a summer of fun with a sandwich that only makes sense when it’s hot outside. Fry up some bacon in the morning for breakfast, and then crush the lunch rush with an Americana classic BLT.

I’ve been running a little behind lately.

That’s the way it goes sometimes. It could be a good reason, like having a newborn baby at home. Could be just too many to-do’s stacking up.

The rest of the world doesn’t slow down just because your own gets fuller.

It’s in the busy times that I lean even more into good home cooked meals.

Cooking good food at home makes sure that I can handle the pace at the office and at the house.

It’s one of the staples that helps me catch back up.

Even in the busy times, we all need to eat well. That’s part of the spirit of cast iron cooking.

There is a leadership phrase – “You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your habits.”

Make cooking great home cooked food part of your habits. When the busy times come, you can lean in and be healthier through it.

Even if you are running a couple hours behind.

Y’all be good.

The Good Stuff

I consume all kinds of media that has what I would term a “good livin” vibe. If you’ve got a podcast or book or song worth sharing, please do.

Sometimes a new song hits just right.

I heard this song for the first time last week, and have been playing it non-stop. In the car, on a run, in the morning and after work.

“Brand new shirt // Guess it’s a little expensive // whatever works // to put some joy in the engine”

Real music is back.

Chef Skills

One of the main goals of Cast Iron Soul is to empower everyone to make great food, every day, all year round.

One of the secrets to making great entrees is really simple. 15 minutes before starting to cook, remove any meats you have from the fridge.

Remove from the packaging, pat dry with a paper towel and sprinkle with salt.

The salt removes any excess moisture, and allows for a crisp sear when it hits the skillet.

Community Table

We’d love to see what you’re cooking! Snap a photo of your cast iron creation and send it in to be featured.

Nothing from the kitchen to post this week, but I’ve been working up something behind the scenes.

I have a goal each year to do one new “diving board” activity, something that makes me a little uncomfortable in a good way.

Expand the repertoire, so to say.

Hey YouTube – Let’s Get Supper on the Table.

Thanks so much for subscribing. I hope this brings a little joy to your inbox and kitchen table each week.
