Good morning, y’all.

Is that football back on the TV already?

Commandment #10 — Let food share the same skillet, and blend the favors together.

BLT — Say adios to a summer of fun with a sandwich that only makes sense when it’s hot outside. Fry up some bacon in the morning for breakfast, and then crush the lunch rush with an Americana classic BLT.

I was on a big conference call on Friday.

Real shocker, I know. It seems like every since 2020 three quarters of our days are spent looking at the little webcam on the computer.

I hardly knew one of the main players on the phone, also named Matt who worked at Sherwin Williams.

We’re called in first, and he mentioned he lives in Kentucky.

Much to everyone else’s chagrin, that was the only opening I needed.

Before you know it, we’re talking UK hoops, Clemson football, and pretty much anything except the reason we were called in to the meeting.

We hardly interact, have never shaken hands, but we speak the same language.

Sports, music, and food are things that bring people together nowadays.

Can cross the boundaries of neighborhoods and zip codes.

Maybe break the ice on a conference call.

Enough of the headlines and gas prices. Football season is almost here.

21 Days until my Clemson Tigers head to LSU on national television. Apparently the ESPN predictor said we’re going 10-2.

I guess we all need some high hopes.

Y’all be good.

The Good Stuff

I consume all kinds of media that has what I would term a “good livin” vibe. If you’ve got a podcast or book or song worth sharing, please do.

“Is this Heaven?” – John Kinsella

“It’s Iowa” – Ray Kinsella

Each year, MLB plays a ball game out in the cornfields of Iowa where the Field of Dreams movie was filled. A slice of pure marketing nostalgia, one that fully works on me every time I see the highlights.

“How can you not be romantic about baseball?”

Chef Skills

One of the main goals of Cast Iron Soul is to empower everyone to make great food, every day, all year round.

A few years ago I was generously gifted a few items to expand my cooking skills.

I received a Japanese Style 7″ Chef’s Knife that came with its own carrying case like a pair of Ray-Bans.

I use this tool every day, without fail, and it has become an absolute essential in my kitchen. From slicing onions to chopping vegetables to dividing meats, it can do it all.

I highly recommend to get one for yourself.

Let’s get supper on the table.

Community Table

We’d love to see what you’re cooking! Snap a photo of your cast iron creation and send it in for a chance to be featured.

One of the great benefits of having a newborn is people voluntarily hand deliver great food to your front door.

Thanks this week to Hyunah Brody for the Chicken and Noodles combination, as well as the homemade granola.

“Organic seeds and nuts, pure Vermont Maple syrup from a farm for the past 26 years, with a pinch of organic brown sugar.”

My 3 year old has asked for the granola and yogurt every morning, which is harder to achieve than a Michelin star.

Thanks so much for subscribing. I hope this brings a little joy to your inbox and kitchen table each week.
