Good morning, y’all.

Hope your team’s best player didn’t get traded to a rival last week.

Commandment #9 — Respect Seasonality.

Kale Salad with Chicken — Needing some more green in your life? Health is wealth these days. So make some more money this year by eating some Kale Salad with Chicken.

I hit the Google and realized this is a real thing – we are in the dog days of summer.

A 40 day period between July 3rd and August 11th, which marks the period of “the most humid, sweltering, and uncomfortable part of the summer”.

Work at the job site is starting early and staying late, the sun just hangs up in the sky all day.

Grown men and women in hard hats and boots are wandering the freezer looking for the fruit ice pops we ate as kids.

But like another significant 40 days, this time can be one of transformation and change.

A good time to dream, a good time to evaluate what’s working and what’s not in your life.

Maybe a good time to start making great food, every day.

Maybe a good time to buy that cast iron skillet.

Fall (and football) is less than 30 days away, as Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer.

And then the work you did in the dog days shows up.

Y’all be good.

The Good Stuff

I consume all kinds of media that has what I would term a “good livin” vibe. If you’ve got a podcast or book or song worth sharing, please do.

Send me an email castironsoul803@gmail.com

This weekend is the annual edition of ESPN 8 – The Ocho. Inspired by the movie Dodgeball, ESPN decided to lean into a weekend of sports oddity and entertainment every year.

Some of my favorite activities this year include the Microsoft Excel Championship at 7AM EST, Fire Department Racing at 8:30 AM, the Weiner Dog Derby, and the Savannah Bananas at 8PM.

Chef Skills

One of the main goals of Cast Iron Soul is to empower everyone to make great food, every day, all year round.

Check out this book by Sean Brock, an award winning chef who made cooking Southern a classy thing to do.

It has great, low to medium difficulty recipes that will expand your skills, and it’s one of my favorite references to keep coming back to.

Let’s get supper on the table.

Community Table

We’d love to see what you’re cooking! Snap a photo of your cast iron creation and send it in for a chance to be featured.

Thanks this week to Tobi Busari who hand delivered 4lbs of cooked salmon and vegetables to my house. Greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much for subscribing. I hope this brings a little joy to your inbox and kitchen table each week.
