Good morning, y’all.
Tough loss by the soccer team on Monday night.
Commandment #5 — Use protection. Keep a hot pad nearby.
🍳 Let’s Get Supper on the Table

Enjoy this recipe with your people this summer as we celebrate 250 years of the American experiment.
Smashburgers — Nothing says summertime like hamburgers, cold beer, and good friends.
Well, our national love affair with the world’s game has gone up in smoke.
Following the 4-1 loss to Belgium on Monday night, we’ve been booted out of our own World Cup party.
In no certain order, here are the things I’ll most about this too-brief World Cup run:
- Pullin’ for the Americans
- Believing we were way better than we are
- Criticizing the rules of a sport I hardly know about
- Welcoming travelers to our Bass Pro Shops, Waffle Houses, and country stores
- Fans in red, white, and blue in the stands
- Counting the days until the next match
- Scrolling the team merchandise shop
- Talkin’ soccer instead of politics
The national team is a unique thing. Sports matter because they bring strangers together for a common cause, and create a “good tension” in the close games. Most of our sports are regional or city based, and can be defined to a sub-group of the country.
But in an all too rare moment, the soccer team did inspire a positive shared experience.
Now’s the perfect time to invite someone new over for dinner, and bond over the shared misery of a lost World Cup.
It’s still hot outside, the beer still works, and the lightning bugs are out in full force.
So let’s drag out that American summer. Let the skillet sizzle with friends all around.
And college football is back in under 100 days.
Y’all be good.
